My Take on Formal Essays
It is important to know how to write a formal essay. Formal essays are a good way to communicate your ideas in a clear, organized manner. If one has all the information and research they require, they only need follow the typical essay formula to express their findings. When applying for universities, jobs and special programs, sometimes a formal essay about the topic is required to get in. English is not the only class that students must write essays in; subjects like history, geography and even science ask for formal essays regularly to organize ideas. Without the ability to write a formal essay, some students will be truly lost in the future.
Romeo and Juliet today
Some themes in Romeo and Juliet are timeless. The ideas centering around teens’ relationships with their parents haven’t changed and the romantic storyline is everlasting. Firstly, I think the idea of teens rebelling against their parents still applies today. The play shows that sometimes, parents don’t have full control of what their kids do and the more they to stop them, the more their kids will try to go against them. This still happens nowadays with teens regarding issues like dating or getting piercings. Another thing that still applies to the present is that people will do anything for love. Love drives people to do crazy things for each other. In Romeo’s and Juliet’s cases, they went against their parents’ wishes, and then killed themselves so they wouldn’t have to go on living without each other. While this is pretty extreme, people today still go to insane lengths to be with the ones they love. Romeo and Juliet is a story that will always be around because the ideas apply to any decade.
Guess the Song
Okay, so we were translating lyrics into Shakespearean speak and trying to guess each others' songs. Most of what I listen to isn't really popular enough that people would recognize it by the general idea of one of the lyrics, so I had to settle for this song. Can you guess what it is?
At this moment I lay mine eyes unto you and I cannot conceive that you are unaware, unaware, of your beauty. That is what contributes to your elegance.
Romeo and Juliet
We recently began studying Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in three different ways. First, we read as a class from the script. Then, we watched Baz Luhrmann's modernized version of Romeo and Juliet from 1996. Then we watched Franco Zeffirelli's version from 1968.
I enjoyed reading straight from the text much more than watching the two movie versions. I felt it was much easier for me to understand what was going on when I could read all the words myself. I felt more comfortable with the text, which may be from my tendency to, well, always be in control. I enjoyed reading a part out loud, and being able to pause and think about the text for a minute.
In regards to the two video versions, I preferred Zeffirelli's over Luhrmann's. I felt that if the play was to be modernized, the speech should be tailored to fit the time period as well. I liked the characters and the costumes in the Zeffirelli version as well, and I feel like it's more traditional.

I am Yours, You are Mine
I am your crashing waves,
You are my grassy field.
I am your accelerator,
You are my “yield.”
I am your sword,
You are my shield.
You are my grassy field.
I am your accelerator,
You are my “yield.”
I am your sword,
You are my shield.
